Soriano is a medieval town inhabited by a population of 8.000, situated around Orsini Castle, site of papal residence in XIII century. 
The magnificent castle commissioned by Pope Niccolò III dominates the town and the valley and is the background of the impressive landscape enjoyed from “Sasso del Mescolaio” property. Besides the castle and the ancient borough one can admire the fortress that develops all around them and many other buildings of high historical and artistic interest such as Palazzo Chigi Albani along with its fountains by Vignola, St. George's Church (XI century), St Nicholas' from Bari Duomo (8th century) situaded in the center of the town, in the heart of the characteristic Vittorio Emanuele III Square, site of shows and entertainments. Among these, the Jazz Festival running from the second half of July to the first decade of August, concerts, Film Festivals and during the first weeks of October the historical adaptation of the medieval battle of Buonincontro during the characteristic chestnuts festival. 
During this time Soriano becomes lively of people dressed in Middle Age costumes; local dishes can be enjoyed all around the town in the tipical taverns and wine cellars made ready ad hoc for the event. Different and several shows are featured around the town and roasted chestnuts are offered for free in the streets of all the old quarters. |
